Stanford's Kehoe Named Setter of the Year for 2007

The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce its selection of Stanford's Bryn Kehoe as the 2007 CVU.com National Setter of the Year.

A senior from North Bend, Ohio, Kehoe followed up her CVU Top Five performance last season by finishing tied for first in the country in assists per game at 14.4 as she led Stanford to the National Title match.

Compared with last year, Kehoe finished an assist per game better and was also second in the country in total assists with 1,742. Her guidance also had Stanford near the top of the country in attacking, as the Cardinal was fourth in hitting percentage at .316 and fifth in kills per game at 17.46.

In other statistical categories, Kehoe also finished with solid numbers as the 5-11 senior picked up 76 kills on .226 hitting. She also added 2.64 digs per game, 28 service aces and 86 total blocks.

The other four setters to earn CVU honors are all newcomers to the list this season —Michelle Moriarty of Texas, Florida's Angie McGinnis, Wioleta Leszczynska from St. John's and Middle Tennessee's Leslie Clark.

Leading Texas to another strong season and national quarterfinal appearance, Moriarty put up more solid numbers in her final year. Averaging 14.18 assists per game, Moriarty paced Texas to the second best hitting percentage in the nation at .343 and sixth place in kills per game with 17.36. Individually she added 46 kills, 20 aces, 44 blocks and picked up 2.67 digs per game.

While tossing out plenty of assists to teammates, McGinnis also put up solid individual numbers for Florida. The senior was tops in digs and blocks among setters finishing in the Top 10 in assists per game. In addition to her 13.88 assists, McGinnis had 1.36 kills and 1.03 blocks per game while scooping 2.28 digs per game and hitting .328. As a team Florida was fifth in hitting percentage at .303 and fourth in kills with 17.49 per game.

Wrapping up its best season ever, St. John's got plenty of guidance out of its senior setter in advancing to the NCAA Regionals. Leszczynska had the Red Storm second in kills (17.58) and ninth in percentage (.282) while finishing third herself in assists per game with 14.19. A strong all-around player, Leszczynska also added 1.08 kills per game, 2.06 digs and 0.60 blocks. Finally, she finished with the most total assists among Division I players.

In only her second season, Clark is part of a Middle Tennessee team that is turning into a squad to be reckoned with on the national level. Finishing 35-3 with the fourth best winning percentage in the country, the Blue Raiders advanced to the NCAA Regional as Clark averaged 13.74 assists per game. As a team MTSU was seventh in hitting percentage. The sophomore setter also added 2.14 digs per game as well as 87 kills, 31 aces and 100 total blocks on the season.
