The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Michigan junior Lexi Zimmerman has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Aug. 31 through Sept 6.
A 5-10 setter from Barrington, Ill., Zimmerman helped Michigan keeps its perfect start going, leading them to a trio of victories at the Xavier Invitational. To open the tournament, Zimmerman recorded the first triple-double of her career, tallying 42 assists, 17 digs and 11 kills while hitting .588. She also picked up an ace and a block in the 3-1 victory over Tennessee. Facing host Xavier in the second match, the junior tossed out 47 assists and complemented it with 13 digs and three kills as the Wolverines again won 3-1. Finally, against Notre Dame, Zimmerman led Michigan to a .390 hitting percentage as she picked up 43 assists, nine kills and seven digs in the sweep. For the tournament, Zimmerman averaged 12 assists, 3.36 digs and 2.1 kills per set while hitting .417. She also guided the 5-0 Wolverines to a .300 team hitting percentage over the weekend. In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches.
