The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Alabama sophomore Ashley Frazier has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Sept. 14 through Sept 20.
A 6-1 outside hitter from Oregon, Ohio, Frazier led the Crimson Tide to a strong SEC start as Alabama opened with a pair of victories.
On a five-match skid going into conference play, Alabama got a boost playing back at home, opening with a sweep over a Georgia team that was 8-2 and had won six-straight matches. In the win, Frazier drilled 15 kills to go with 11 digs and three blocks, hitting .393 on the night.
In the second match of the week, the Tide faced another hot team: in-state foe Auburn. The Tigers had won four in a row and were 9-3, but Alabama pulled out the 3-1 victory. Frazier came through with another double-double with 16 kills, 17 digs, three blocks and a career-best three aces. She hit .353.
For the week, the sophomore averaged 4.43 kills per set on .371 hitting, while adding 4.0 digs per set, six total blocks and five total aces. She was named SEC Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the fourth in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
