The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that LSU senior Brittnee Cooper has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Oct. 26 through Nov. 1.
A 6-3 middle blocker from Houston, Texas, Cooper was equally impressive on both sides of the ball in leading the Tigers to a trio of SEC victories last week. Cooper started with a big defensive performance on the road as LSU downed Tennessee in four on Oct. 26. In the win, Cooper put back nine total blocks, including three solo, just missing the double-double as she finished with 11 kills. Then, in the Tigers' next two matches, Cooper found her offensive rhythm. Versus Georgia, the senior drilled 16 kills on .542 hitting, adding five more blocks to that as LSU claimed the 3-1 win. Finally, Cooper put down another 15 kills while scorching Auburn for .667 hitting in a home sweep. She added another six blocks to her week's total. For the week, the middle averaged 3.82 kills per set on .398 hitting to go with 1.82 blocks per set. In the two home matches, she averaged 4.43 kills per set on .600 hitting. This season, Cooper is averaging 1.39 blocks per set, good for 14th in the NCAA rankings. The award marks the third time an LSU player has been honored, as Lauren DeGirolamo has earned CVU Player of the Week honors twice. In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria. Top Performers
