The Collegiate Volleyball Update (CVU.com) is pleased to announce that Purdue senior Ariel Turner has been selected as the CVU.com National Player of the Week for Nov. 19 through Nov. 25.
A 6-1 outside hitter from Highlands Ranch, Colo., Turner led Purdue to a pair of victories to close out the Big Ten season and build some momentum going into the NCAA tournament.
In the week's first match versus Indiana, Turner put down 18 kills on .366 hitting while defensively picking up 14 digs and tallying six blocks as the Boilermakers rolled to a sweep. Then, in her final home match, the senior shined again. In a 3-1 victory over Wisconsin, Turner drilled 24 kills while adding four aces, 17 digs and three more blocks -- all while hitting .377. The outside is now just three digs shy 1,000 for her career.
For the weekend, Turner averaged 6.0 kills per set on .373 hitting, while also recording 4.43 digs and 1.29 blocks per set. The senior's efforts netted her a third conference weekly honor this season and the 10th of her career as she was named Big Ten Player of the Week. The CVU.com Weekly honor is the first for a Boilermaker.
In addition to the Player of the Week, CVU.com will be announcing selections for the Top Performers from the past week. These selections will include the Player of the Week and up to 10 others. Choices will consist of players who were finalists for the weekly honor and others who had exceptional individual matches. The additional selections will be based on nominations and CVU.com staff criteria.
Editor's Note: This is the fourteenth in a series of Player-of-the-Week selections that will be made through the remainder of the season and announced on Tuesday or Wednesday of each week.
College and conference SIDs are welcome to make Player-of-the-Week nominations. Nominations are due every Monday by 1 p.m. Pacific time.
